What’s history?
History is everything that happened in the past. We can divide history into 5 main periods:
– Prehistory
-Ancient history
-Middle Ages
-Modern Age
-Contemporary Age
-Contemporary Age
PREHISTORY
Prehistory is the period from when the first humans existed about 2.000.000years ago, until the invention of writing.
History is the period from the invention of writing until nowadays.
Let’s see this timeline:
PREHISTORY
During this period, people couldn’t write.
There are 2 main periods of prehistory: Palaeolithic period and theNeolithic period.
Cave paintings are paintings found in caves in the prehistoric period.
In Spain, we can find two important caves: Altamira caves (in Cantabria) andAtapuerca caves (in Burgos).
ANCIENT HISTORY
Let´s introduce the Ancient History, focused on Romans.
In Spain, Romans were about 7 centuries and they left a large number of archaeological remains.

During the Middle Ages, two big civilisations lived in the Iberian Peninsula:Christian civilisation and Islamic civilisation.
Christians built castles, churches and cathedrals.
Muslims built mosques.
